#70 Your Body Knows What Is Just Right?
Grandmaster Yu often taught that Oneness Standing helps the body return to balance.
If you're overweight, you may gradually lose weight. If you're underweight, you may gain some.
The goal isn't to become thinner or heavier. It's to return to what is right for your body.
Some practitioners have shared that they've lost 20 pounds or more. Others tell me they've maintained their shape as they age.
And there's something else I've noticed.
As people grow older, they often appear to shrink. Their necks shorten, shoulders round, and posture collapses.
But when I look at longtime Oneness practitioners, I often see something different.
An upright neck. An open chest. A natural presence. A quiet vitality that makes age seem less visible.
The same principle may apply to joint discomfort.
In Chinese medicine, there's a traditional saying:
δΈιεηοΌιεδΈηγ
Where there is blockage, there is pain. Where there is free flow, there is no pain.
Many practitioners report that their joint discomfort gradually decreases, sometimes even disappears.
Not simply because the pain is masked, but perhaps because the body is functioning differently.
Of course, these are personal experiences, not guarantees of medical outcomes.
This brings me to my biggest challenge in introducing Oneness to the West.
We are accustomed to looking for one solution to one problem.
One method for weight loss. Another for pain. Another for anxiety. Another for longevity.
So when I introduce a single practice that may influence many aspects of well-being, it can sound too simple to believe.
But Oneness doesn't begin by chasing individual symptoms.
It begins with the whole body.
Just as a tree doesn't need a separate treatment for every yellow leaf when its roots and soil become healthy again.
Perhaps the question isn't how one practice can address so many problems.
Perhaps it's how many problems can arise when the body loses its balance.
Keep standing. Let your body do its work.
