33. How can I be non-attaching?
Feb 10, 2026The principle of Oneness practice is:
Non-doing, Non-attaching, Being present
But here is the misunderstanding:
You are not asked to practice non-doing. You are not asked to practice non-attaching.
Because the moment you try to practice them… you are already doing something.
The Difference from Many Popular Practices
Many modern methods ask you to:
Watch your thoughts
Focus on your breath
Guide your energy
Observe your emotions
Control attention
We are not commenting on whether these are good or bad. They can help many people focus.
But the approach here is fundamentally different.
Oneness practice does not give you more things to do.
It changes the condition.
Posture Builds the Stage
The posture is designed to build the stage.
When the structure is correct:
Effortlessness becomes possible.
Relaxation becomes natural.
Balance becomes stable.
You do not create the state. You allow it.
This posture is unique because it enables:
Spirit upright
Muscles relaxed
Body alive, not sluggish
Relaxation does not mean collapse.
Slouching on a sofa is not relaxation. Sitting in an expensive office chair with back pain is not relaxation.
True relaxation is:
Upright spirit. Soft body. Awake presence.
No other posture creates this condition so precisely.
Opposite to Human Tendencies
We were trained to: Study hard, Work hard, Perform, Improve, Achieve, Fix
Even when we "relax," we are still trying.
This practice is opposite to that tendency.
It is not training the mind to learn more. It is not striving.
It is letting the body work on its own.
Once the Stage Is Set
When posture is ready, you do not need to:
Control the breath
Watch the thoughts
Guide the energy
Fix the experience
Breath? Natural.
Mind drifts? Let it drift.
Energy? Let it generate.
About Vital Energy
The energy generated here is not the popular concept of energy people casually talk about.
This is foundational life energy.
Kung Fu masters build explosive power simply by standing.
It is deep. It is real. It is powerful.
But the key difference:
You do not guide it. You do not manipulate it. You do not attach to it.
Let it grow. Let it circulate. Let it clear blockages. Let it generate courage, peace, joy.
Energy and awareness work together automatically.
No involvement needed.
The Intelligence of the Body
As I wrote in my book The Art of Standing (Book 1 in The Intelligence of Your Body):
The body is magic.
Every second: Tens of billions of biochemical reactions occur automatically.
Without your control. Without your mental effort.
Your heart beats. Cells repair. Hormones regulate. Balance adjusts.
All without you thinking about it.
Bill Bryson's book The Body: A Guide for Occupants describes it beautifully—the human body is an orchestration beyond comprehension.
The body functions with an intelligence far deeper than conscious thought.
So why do we not trust it?
Why do we insist on interfering?
Don't Attach. Don't Try.
Please be confident:
Your body works better than your mind.
Do not try to attach to:
Sensations
Breath
Energy
Posture adjustments
Goals
Non-doing and non-attaching overlap.
Both are opposite to our habitual tendency to interfere.
They are not techniques. They are consequences.
Practical Reminders While Standing
When you stand:
Smile gently.
Eyes look far, horizontal.
Vision expands 180 degrees.
Hearing opens 180 degrees behind.
Be one with nature.
Do not constantly adjust posture.
Do not worry: "What if I'm tilted?" "What if one shoulder is lower?"
That is normal.
I experienced this myself:
One shoulder lower. Body feels tilted.
Leave it. Enjoy is the point.
If breath rises to the chest, sigh and let it drop naturally to lower abdomen.
But do not obsess. Do not fix. Do not monitor.
Our Real Problems
Caring too much.
Concern creates doing. Doing creates attachment. Attachment creates striving.
Many teachings guide energy.
This one does not.
Let the mud settle.
As Grandmaster Yu says:
Humans are like muddy water. When the mud settles, clarity appears.
Health appears. Peace appears. Joy appears. Compassion appears.
You do not create them.
They reveal themselves.
The Final Reminder
Do not practice non-doing.
Do not practice non-attaching.
Stand. Smile. Be upright. Be relaxed.
Once posture is set, tell yourself:
Now leave it.
Enjoy. Be one with nature.
Let everything happen automatically.
